Madison police officer Shannon Blackamore helps incoming freshman Dana Joseph find her classrooms at Memorial High School Tuesday. Blackamore often breaks up fights as the school's educational resource officer, yet he said weeks sometimes go by without a fight, and much of his time is spent heading off problems through one-on-one contact with students. Students enroll at Memorial High School Monday for classes that begin this week. Police calls for violence- related incidents are down at Memorial and at the Madison School District's three other main high schools.
