E-MAIL STORY

Julie Fitzpatrick, a first-grade teacher at Elvehjem Elementary School, works on a nearly decade-old computer in her classroom, equipped with Windows 98 software. Teachers in most of the district's classrooms have to share computers with their students, something that the authors of a new three-year technology plan now under review would like to see changed. Under a draft of the Madison School District's new three-year technology plan, computer labs like this one at Elvehjem Elementary School eventually could be replaced by lower-cost portable netbooks that can be moved from classroom to classroom, helping to integrate technology into everyday school curriculum.
